Why The Big Deal About A Book?

Why do Christians hold on to a book so tightly? Why do they base their whole lives on words written thousands of years ago? What is it about the Bible the draws in so many people’s absolute trust? The answer is simple; there is simply no other book on earth that compares to this one….it is the word of Almighty God Himself! It Is Where God Is Revealed To Us The Bible contains the entire and complete revelation of God. Everything we know about Him - in fact, everything we can know about Him has been written in these pages. His love, His mercy, His power, His faithfulness...these are all discovered in His Word. It’s important to realize that all of God’s nature is revealed in the Bible. We don’t see it all, because so much of His nature is beyond our understanding. But whether we can understand it or not, it’s all contained in the pages of Scripture. How do we know this? Psalm 138:2 tells us that God has “ magnified [His] Word above all [His] name. ” We’ve spent the last few...

Yahweh Tsabaoth - God of Heaven's Armies

1 Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts ( Yahweh Tsabaoth ) , the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. ” Sending His Angels, Giving His People Victory This verse comes from one of the most famous stories in the Bible, the story of David and Goliath. This was David’s now-famous battle taunt against the giant. He made it crystal clear that God - the LORD of hosts - would bring him the victory that day. And sure enough, against all natural odds, God gave this military champion into the hand of a teenage shepherd. It wasn’t the sling or the stone that defeated Goliath. No, David told us in this verse why he won...it was because of the LORD of hosts . This is the name Yahweh Tsabaoth , and it describes the God Who leads and commands the angel armies of Heaven. As a matter of fact, the Message Bible actually translates the LORD of hosts this way -...

Yahweh Nissi - Victory Over Sin

Exodus 17:14-16 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-LORD-Is-My-Banner (Yahweh Nissi) ; for he said, “Because the LORD has sworn: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. ” A History of Warfare Almost immediately after being rescued out of Egypt, Israel ran into trouble. Some of the weaker members of the congregation were attacked by a wandering band of marauders and carried away as slaves. It was Israel's first experience with battle, and it seemed to catch them off guard. After they recouped, God gave them an unusual plan for their first military action ever. Moses put the entire army under the command of his assistant, Joshua. While Joshua marched after the raiders (known as Amalekites ), Moses climbed up to the top of a nearby hill with two other men.
